Today we went for a walk at Eastham Woods Country Park. It was a bit of a trek to get to but was a really huge place to walk around. It was really nice with plenty of other dogs for Stark to play with. There was also lots of sculptures carved out of wood, including a huge snake, a person and a real Victorian bear pit complete with carved bears!

Inspiration Of The Day: The bear pit. So strange to think there were zoos that once kept animals in such poor conditions. It's also crazy to imagine all the Victorian people going to see creatures they'd never seen before.

Today we went on a walk with Stark to Lymm Dam and he learnt to swim! He watched another dog swimming in the water after a stick and started paddling in deeper water. He wouldn't jump in or go any deeper that his tummy but he was sticking his whole face under! We carried on our walk and found another place with a shallow slope into the water. After some more encouragement he finally started swimming after the sticks we were throwing to him! I was so proud! He's so clever and he was so brave to finally start swimming even though he was a bit scared at first. I can't wait to take him to a beach now.

Today's PED is an old photo I found from when I visited Egypt on my mid teens. It was awesome to go inside the pyramid but generally Cairo wasn't too nice a place. Very hot, very dirty and not very safe! We were escorted by the armed forces in jeeps with all the soldiers holding loaded machine guns! Scary! I'd love to go again as I'm super interested in Ancient Egypt, in particular the mythology and the gods.

I had a lovely day off today. I went to the RSPCA this morning to talk about volunteering, then went to Debs to find out I'd already worked my last shift. We then took Stark to Lymm Dam and for a quick pub lunch. Then I went to my Mum's for tea and finally we watched Game Of Thrones. Aah, what a good day off!

Today we had a dog trainer to see Stark and to give us some advice. We've got some things to be working on including 'leave' and voice tone changes to indicate good or bad behaviour. We have another session in a couple of weeks when he's grown up a little bit more, but he's doing really well considering he's only 3 months old! I also got round to putting our photos up of us and the cats from our photo session. They look really nice and I'm glad we chose the ones we did. I called at The Range this afternoon as well; I picked up some new bedsheets and some photo frames. I just need to start hanging them all now!

The weather has been really nice today, but as I was in work all day then got home to find Stark was worn out from being out all day, I've not managed to enjoy it properly yet! Boo!

Highlight Of The Day: Watching Game of Thrones! Watching season 3 and reading the first book gets very confusing though!

Pet Of The Week: Axolotl

I'm starting a new feature called Pet Of The Week to allow me to research and learn more about the animals we sell at my new place of work. First up, we have the axolotl.

 

The axolotl is known by it's official name; Ambystoma mexicanum or more commonly as the Mexican salamander or Mexican walking fish. It is closely related to the tiger salamander but it is fully aquatic and spends its entire life underwater. They originate from spefic freshwater lakes, including Lake Xochimilco which lies underneath Mexico City. Sadly, they are registered as critically endangered in regards to conservation status as their young are often eaten by non-native fish which have been introduced into their habitats.

Today we moved the gecko babies and their tanks downstairs into the front room. They were in the study but I felt they were a bit neglected in there, so they've joined the rest of the family in the front! Hopefully the cats won't pester them (or rather the locusts) as much now they'll be shut away from them during the day.

Today was my first day at my new job! I've started working at a nearby pet store and I already love it! The people are really nice, which was one of the main reasons that I applied in the first place. I'm already a regular customer and I really like their friendly, helpful attitudes and they have such a lot of knowledge about the products they sell. I've been learning the basics today but I've already learnt so much about pet nutrition that I didn't know! After some more in depth training tomorrow I'll write a post about what I've learnt about pet foods. Today's PED is of the new feed chart the boy made for the cats, so that they're not getting two breakfasts!

Today we had our induction for volunteering at Cheshire Dog's Home. We had a little talk about the place and what was expected of us and then we paired up with an existing volunteer and helped walk all of the dogs! We walked Buster and Buzz, two staffie crosses who are lovely. Then two more staffie crosses who were terribly excited and raced around and two lurchers who were as good as gold. We walked them round the track a couple of times and also had a bit of a play with them in the fenced off compound where they're allowed to go off lead. It was really nice to see how excited they were to get out of their kennels for a bit. It's a shame so many lovely dogs are unwanted and left there. Today's PED is of the breakfast cereal multigrain shapes. It's supposedly one of the 'better' breakfast choices as it has multigrains in (whatever they are) but it does contain 5g of sugar for every serving, so not the best for my teeth! Still, it's super tasty! If they were to make an improvement though, I'd suggest more variety in the different shapes; it seems to just be people, fish and trees really.

Reason: I love The Misfits! Horror punk is amazing! Their, short, sharp, to the point songs are always awesome.

Highlight Of The Day: An evening spent watching documentaries about crop circles, Hitler's family and the series Snapped: Women Who Kill. Cheerful subjects!

Inspiration Of The Day: Crop circles. After watching a documentary about them (which wasn't really that good at all!) I think that although they look lovely, they're sort of pointless as you can only see them from above. It's not really art when 99% of people can't have a proper view of it. But I do love the more complex designs and the symmetry.

Most of them I'm happy with but some look a litle yellow so I'm going to have a play around and see if I can enhance them. This one is my instant favourite though.

Just a quick Outfit Of The Day post. This is the outfit I wore out last Friday. I wore a white floaty dress that I bought from a random shop in Camden ages ago; a black Ralph Lauren belt; a stag ring a friend bought me for my birthday; a long necklace with a skull, dagger and a gun; a black ring with a fake pearl from Miss Selfridge; a charm bracelet that an Aunty bought me for xmas one year; black Victorian styled, lace up boots I've had for years but only wear on rare occasions as the zip on one boot has jammed and I'm scared of ruining them and lastly a good old pair of leggings. I'd also done my hair in a bun for a change.
