Today I watched the short documentary film 'Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe'. The film is to the point, it sees Herzog attempting to flavour the shoe as best he can before eating it on a stage in front of an audience. Herzog ate his shoe as he promised to do such a thing should Errol Morris complete his film 'Gates Of Heaven'. He is clearly a man who sticks to his word. I've also been watching his 'On Death Row' series, which spurred me to watch this short. I really love Herzog's style, I find it a lot less biased that conventional prison/crime documentaries which tend to sensationalise the case and attempt to de-humanise the criminals. Instead, 'On Death Row' allows us to just simply hear what it is like to have to live with the consequences of such actions. The case details are discussed, it would be impossible to ommit them, but it is done in such a way that means it isn't the focus of the documentary; time is. For the average person it is impossible to imagine what it would be like to not only commit such serious offences, but to live with the consequences for the rest of your life and this is why I find this subject fascinating. I am going to be watching as much of Herzog's works as I can as I think he is an inspirational filmmaker and will hopefully be an influence on my own future films.

Song Of The Day: Green Day - Walking Contradiction
Reason: One of my favourite Green Day songs, the video is amusing too.

Today I'm having serious withdrawal symptoms from being on the set of Boom In Shot. It has definately refined the fact that this is what I want to do forever. Fingers crossed there will be a sequel...

Song Of The Day: Will Smith - Men In Black
Reason: Classic 90s tune!

Highlight Of The Day: Naughty KFC for tea cos there's nothing in!

Today was the last day of filming for Boom In Shot. I'm really gutted that it's over as I didn't want it to finish. I've had such a nice time, everyone has been brilliant. I'd love to work with the crew again and hopefully I would be able to cast the actors in a future project. I'm just really excited to see the final film now, even though there's still the long editing process to go! This has by far been the best film job I've ever had. We also had a great time at the wrap party which was drinks in Odder bar, Manchester. We had many laughs and it rounded off a great few days shooting in the perfect way. Special thanks to everyone on the cast and crew, but in particular to Jez Blackmore (the director) for allowing me to become a part of this project!

Another good day on set. I was worried that we wouldn't get all of the set ups done, but we even managed to get a handful shot that were scheduled for tomorrow! I'm starting to feel sad that we only have one day left. Sad face.

Today was the first day of filming for Boom In Shot. It was a really good day and we had a good few laughs. We were filming the first scene today which was all shot in the fake film set we dressed yesterday. It looked really good on camera so I was glad it was worth all the effort. It was great to see a Red camera too, the quality is just amazing! If I had ten of thousands of pounds lying around I'd be tempted to buy one! The actors all looked great in their costumes and played their roles well. I really think this will turn into a sucess if it's placed in the right film festivals.

Today was the set up day for Boom In Shot. We went to Antwerp Mansion, which is our location, to set up the sets. We created the fake film set complete with sacrificial alter, melted candles and spray painted pentagram and it looks awesome! The mansion is a great location, it's full of junk too, so we managed to find some old books that dated back to as early as 1880! I'll take my Canon tomorrow and try to get some good shots. Can't wait for shooting to begin.

Song Of The Day: KMFDM - Hau Ruck
Reason: Awesome song, they were amazing live and it was one of the best gigs I've been too. Better yet, we'd just found the tickets for it!

Highlight Of The Day: Getting aquainted with the mansion.

Photo Every Day #176

Today I was on the set of Sophie's Fortune. I'd been offered the role of runner by the producer who I'd met before on the set of Darktown Jubliee's Breakdown music video. I was really happy to be offered the role, especially as he contacted me as I was unaware that they were looking for runners! I will hopefully be taking up the runner role again next weekend for them. The film itself is about a group of dad's who go on a treasure hunt as part of a child's birthday party, but they get carried away and adopt 'hero' personas. It's a fantasy, action-adventure type film and even though I usually avoid action films, it really does look like it will be a great short. Most of my tasks included driving actors and crew to locations, carrying gear to the locations, speaking to members of the public who came across our production (most of them were excited to see men with guns running around!) and generally lending a hand where it was needed. Luckily for most of the day the weather was nice and the location was awesome! It really suited the story and the actors looked great in their costumes too. Everyone on set was really friendly and hardworking, so it was a nice atmosphere.

Just a quick post this evening as I have to get to sleep asap as I'm getting up at 5am to get ready for a full day of shooting for a film called 'Sophie's Fortune', very exciting! Today we had rehearsals for 'Boom In Shot' which gave me a chance to meet the cast. Everyone seemed really nice and the rehearsals went really well, so I'm really excited to get stuck in and help with the set building on Monday and get started shooting on Tuesday.

Script Read Through:

Song Of The Day: Ed Sheeran - Drunk
Reason: Was listening to the live performance from the Hackney Weekend in the car, he's perfect singing live and sounds exactly like on pre-recorded stuff.  Impressive

Today was the boy's sister's 16th birthday. So there was a party at their Mum's house. There was a lovely buffet and some awesome cakes shaped like the cookie monster. It was nice spending some time chatting with people and stuffing our faces. It's also our last night looking after Pixie as my parents are back home tomorrow!

Balloon Boy:
Balloons

Song Of The Day: Loveable Rogues - Love Games
Reason: I think this is the title of the song, but I've just got the chorus stuck in my head today! Really hope they bring out an album as I think they're really quirky and I loved them on Britain's Got Talent.

Highlight Of The Day: The party!

Another day in work, another walk for Pixie! I like just walking along and taking photos with my iphone, I prefer to use Hipstamatic as you can change film, lenses and flashes to get so many different looks. I think I've come out with some decent shots today, so here are some of the best!

Today was my first day back at work after my week or so of illness. I was actually a little glad to be back as it's a bit boring just moping about, feeling sorry for yourself, whilst not really being able to do much.

Green Green Grass:

Song Of The Day: Modulate - Buzzsaw
Reason: Not heard this for ages and it was randomly chosen by my iPod whilst out with Pixie

Highlight Of The Day: Seeing my workmates who I'd missed whilst being off!

Today we went to the Fun Day at the Walled Garden. We'd actually forgotten it was on and had just gone for cakes, so it was a nice surprise. They had little stalls with old games like a coconut shy, hoopla, roll a penny and my Grandad was the man who you had to throw wet sponges at! The weather was nice and as usual the cake was good! I would really recommend going, it's free to go in and walk round, they have loads of decent events on all year round and always have super nice cakes on Sundays!

Courtyard:

Song Of The Day: Katy Perry - ET
Reason: Really love this song, plus we watched Alien today, so bit of a theme going on.

Highlight Of The Day: Being at the Walled Garden with the boy, Pixie, my grandparents and my aunty.

Today really has been a non-day. We walked Pixie around 11am and since then I have literally just watched pure rubbish on tv. I think I've needed a day like that as this is the first time I've felt mostly ok since being ill.

Photo Every Day #167

Another nightime Pixie photo! She's been really moping about and clingy today cos she realised that my parents aren't coming back. Such a shame that she doesn't know it's just temporary. But I've had lots of Pixie cuddles so it's all good!

Bedtime:
Bedtime

Song Of The Day: Lacuna Coil - Heaven's A Lie
Reason: Love this song, really love Cristina Scabbia. She's a great singer and they do metal in the non tradditional, bloke-screaming-into-microphone-about-satan kinda way.

Highlight Of The Day: Pixie cuddles!!

Tomorrow we are going to be looking after Pixie and moving back into my Mum's for the week whilst they're on holiday. I love my mutt, but she is demanding!! Expect some Pixie themed PEDs for the next few days. I'm surprisingly still feeling ill! Mostly just a really bad headache and blocked ears. The headache seems to be mostly first thing in the morning, late at night and if I do too much, so it does look like it's on its way out at least.

Counting Sheep:

Song Of The Day: Poe - Terrible Thought
Reason: I want to make a video for this song!

Highlight Of The Day: Watching my little rattie babies as they slept. They're like little dogs!!

Another quick one day as I still really feel ill. The boy was tidying up and put our throw over the back of the sofa which looks really nice with our cushions in my opinion.

Song Of The Day: D'Banj - Oliver Twist
Reason: So bad it's sorta ok.

Highlight Of The Day: Having the best supervisor in the world.

Today will be a super fast post because to say I still feel ill would be putting it mildly. I thought I was perking up a bit by mid afternoon, but this evening has seen my headaches and earaches get a whole lot worse. Super sad face. I did finish my book however. I may do a book review when I feel better (if I remember).

When I Was Five:
When I Was Five

Song Of The Day: Silence
Reason: It's been the only sound I've appreciated all day.

Highlight Of The Day: I did manage to get a job application done whilst I was feeling a bit more 'perky', then that really was it....!

Photo Every Day #163

Today I have been feeling terrible. Again. I hate being ill, it's boring when you're not capable of moving more than 5 meters an hour. Pixie did come and visit though, so it wasn't a totally wasted day. This is her unimpressed face which she pulls when she has to have her car seatbelt put on.

Car Safe:
Car Safe

Song Of The Day: Katy Perry - The One That Got Away
Reason: Watched the video before, really like the song and it's easy to relate to.

Highlight Of The Day: Seeing my Pixie baby!

Photo Every Day #162

Today has been much worse than yesterday in terms of feeling ill. Everything is blocked up and I've got sharp pains and aches all over my body. It's a bit hard to tell if it's just a severe cold or mild flu at this stage. We'll see how I feel tomorrow I guess.

Mr Whippy:
Mr Whippy

Song Of The Day: Oasis - Wonderwall
Reason: Someone of Facebook had posted the lyrics, it's a class song in my opinion.

Highlight Of The Day:  Eating ice cream as it soothes my throat temporarily. Also finding a really powerful decongestant tablet with made me feel much better for an hour, then I felt worse than before...doh!

Today I feel ill. I thought it was just my allergy playing up whislt I was in work, but after a couple of antihistamines and no improvement I've decided it's definately the start of a cold. Sad face!

Song Of The Day: Alkaline Trio - We've Had Enough

Reason: The first Alkaline Trio song I heard, loved it instantly. "Put "Walk Among Us" on and turn it up"

Highlight Of The Day: Finding out some nice news from my boss

Today's PED is of Carcass, one of my geckos. She decided to climb on top of her plant and was sort of hovering in mid air!

Today was another round of sending out audition invitations for 'These Guys', we've started to get some confirmations for the auditions this weekend so I'm looking forward to that! Today's PED is of our new sign. I love old style signs, posters and the like and I love old medicine and medical practices. This was from a shop at Lady Heys, there was also a taxidermy fox that I really wanted but it was too expensive sadly.

Nerves:

Today I replied to a ton of casting call applicants. We're now starting to look for pretty much the full cast for 'These Guys' again. It's a long process, but I love it!

Little Lost Pegasus Films:

Song Of The Day: Marina & The Diamonds - Primadonna
Reason: Wasn't really sure I liked this song at first, but it's really grown on me. I really should download her album.

Highlight Of The Day: Knowing that I have those couple of people that I can talk to and make me feel better.

This evening we went up to Hillcliffe to see if we could watch the fireworks going off when the jubilee beacons were lit. Sadly, the beacon is where the public can't really get to it or see it as it's in the middle of a golf course. Great idea! But it was still nice to see the sunset and the gorgeous view.

Dusk:

Song Of The Day: Green Day - Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?
Reason: Adore the book, adore the band, adore the song.

Highlight Of The Day: Seeing the view from Hillcliffe and just how quickly my shift went generally.

Today was the first part of the Diamond Jubilee Weekend. I'm not really that into anything to do with the royals, but my Mum was putting on one of her usual spreads so I wouldn't turn that down. I am hugely into things with union jacks on, but I'm getting a little sick of seeing so much tacky crap that I'll be glad when it's over. However, I think out decorations were quite nice, a bit of tacky but not too overboard.

Photo Every Day #154

Today has been a regular Saturday off; coffee, shopping in town with Mum then lazing around doing the cleaning. I bought some nice yellow jeans, which is a little different from my usual black, navy and striped colour range! But I saw them on someone else and really liked them so I'm giving them a go.

Mellow Yellow:
Mellow Yellow

Song Of The Day: Nelly Furtardo - Big Hoops
Reason: Heard it a couple of times and just watched it on a recording of Alan Carr: Chatty Man. I can't quite make my mind up about it, I think I think it's so bad that it might actually be good!

Highlight Of The Day: We went for a look around Stockton Heath and called into the vintage shop. They had some gorgeous stools and table made out of recycled bikes, the foot rests were pedals! So cool. They had a gorgeous 50s style dress in the window but it was a size 10. I tried it on anyway and it was literally an inch too small. I was gutted! But this is my HOTD because I'm chuffed that my waist is still a size 10!

Photo Every Day #153

Today was a long day full of mean people. Ah well. Life goes on and they'll still be miserable tomorrow. I didn't get home until late, so the poor boys seem to think they'd been deserted. They still love running around and digging about in my dressing gown so that's what they've spent the last half hour or so doing! This time they were popping their heads out to reach some dried mealworms, one of their favourites.

Sleeves:

Song Of The Day: American Hi-Fi - The Break Up Song
Reason: Really love this album, perfect, super catchy, pop-punk for summer

Highlight Of The Day: Having a steak and caramelised onion ciabatta in the M&S kitchen with my Mum. Sooo yummy!

Friday 1 June 2012

Photo Every Day #152

Today's PED is something a bit new. It's a shameless self portrait! ie it's just a picture of moi! I was reading some stuff on the Lomography website and saw a photo of a girl holding the camera out straight in front of her to take a shot of herself. It's a really good shot so thought I'd try the same.

Self Portrait #1:

Self Portrait #2:
Self Portrait #2

Song Of The Day: Industriegebiet - Sex Mit Leiche (Soman Remix)
Reason: The only song I know by this band, but super danceable.

Highlight Of The Day: Donating to the Shark Trust! I've decided I'm going to pick one charity every month to donate to, this month it's the Shark Trust. I'm a huuuuge fan of sharks and find them fascinating. I also think it's disgusting that people would capture sharks only to cut just their fins off (ie the only bit that sells for serious money) and them just toss them back into the ocean, bleeding and just leave them to die or be killed by other sea creatures.
