Today was my second week at college. We looked at the visual elements that make up a photograph such as colour, tone, lines, form, contrast/juxtaposition, shape, space and texture. We also looked at health and safety whilst shooting as we need to include risk assessments in our portfolios. Below is a photo I took on campus of one of the benches. I wanted to create a going off into the distance feel and felt the bold colours would make it stand out. If I were to take this picture again I would like to crop more of the background out and have the planks filling the frame a lot more.

Tomorrow I am back to college to start my photography course! I'm really looking forward to it and can't wait to get stuck in. I'm also interested to see who else is on the course as it'll be nice if there are some like minded people there. I'll update tomorrow with how it went. Tonight I have been out with the girls from work as two of them are leaving. We just went to weatherspoons but it really is nice to spent time chatting with them when we know we won't be told off for trying to talk in the fitting room!

Just a quick one today as I'm super tired. Today I officially became a student again! This time at Salford City College on the Photography Level 3 course, it's actually called something fancy along the lines of image capturing and something or other, but it's basically photography. I'm super happy to be back in education and can't wait to start on the 12th September!

Today was a nice chilled day off, until I started trying to pick photos for the portfolio I want to take to the enrolment to ensure I get a place on the college course I want to do. I've narrowed it down to 30 photos that I can put in or can work on and then add, ideally I want to end up with 8 since it's just a starter portfolio. I feel I'm lacking a good self portrait so I'm going to focus on trying to get one before I need it finished. I will be reading the following religiously until that dated too, and after too, but maybe not so manically.

Today has been a good day! Firstly, we went on the Lubitel Lovers with Leshetz. The Lubitel is definately the camera now at the top of my list! I'll give a full run down of the workshop once we get the photos back. After the workshop, we went walking round the run down, abandoned buildings of Salford. I took a fair amount of pictures even though we only managed to get into one building. So this is a sneak peek.

Today I have been trying to find a photography course so that I can properly learn some skills to make it more than just a hobby. I don't want to go to college full time and I can't afford another degree or masters, so I'm currently between a rock and a hard place as there doesn't seem to be any suitable courses running at the moment. I have found a distance online learning course that looks really good, but would just prefer something with some contact time as well. I'll carry on looking however, as I'm really missing being in a learning environment.

Photo Every Day #21

Today's PED is a photo I've been working on, rather than a photo I've taken. I've spent most of the day cleaning out the boy's room so that we're ready to move out. I took the photo when I was on a one day photography course in Manchester. We had an hour or so to go and take some photos and then bring our best ones back to show the others. The guy leading the course seemed impressed with this one as the water is so clear. It was my favourite photo from the day, I loved the little green plant in the middle of all the pouring water. I also heard about HDR editing programmes after going to my first meeting for the Warrington District Camera Club (WDCC) so decided just to download a free app on to my iMac to see what happened. I only adjusted the HDR setting a bit as I didn't want to go over the top, but I quite like the way it's turned out!
