Today has been a nice day off. I have literally done nothing! I watched some tv and a couple of films, played with my puppy and kitties and then ate ice cream whilst watching Catfish: The TV Show. Perfect!

Today we took Klaus to the vets to get his paw checked out. He's been put on Metacam for the swelling and if he's not improved over the weekend he's to go back and be x-rayed. He seems to be eating, cleaning himself and pooping ok, which are all good signs. But the vet did say his lameness was very severe as he's putting no weight on it. Fingers crossed its just bruised.

Today has been really productive. We got loads done at work, looked up things for the future and finished it off with a relaxing walk with Stark. We also have our new rat cage set up. It's just over 5 foot tall and a couple of feet wide! It's great as they can properly run about and make the most of all the levels. They seemed to have settled in. The photo has cropped out about another half a foot off the bottom, just so you have an idea how tall it really is!

This evening we gave the rats a bath. They don't have space in their cage to have a bowl deep enough for them to properly wash in so it's nice to help them feel fresh. They were really good and didn't really mind being splashed with warm water. They groomed themselves afterwards and looked nice and clean!

This evening we have had a nice half hour or so playing with the boys. We also did the last of their spot on treatments for Quigley's mites so hopefully that will well and truly be the end. Quigley seems to be back to his normal self, nice and groomed with no little cuts/sores, so I'm glad he's much happier now. I'm also determined to find them a new even bigger cage, I've seen some huge ones that can fit multiple platforms in so that would be ideal, the only bad side is that they all tend to have wire floors which I do not like at all. The right cage is out there I just need to find it!

Today I caught Klaus asleep in his litter tray. He'd dragged his paper towels that he uses as bedding into the litter tray, plumped them all up so they were nice and comfy, and went to sleep! I guess this is the rat equivalent of sleeping with a duvet in the bath.

Today I have just been in agony with my shoulder, it seems to hurt every time I have to cough, which is a heck of a lot on a good day nevermind when I have a cold/chest infection! However, I went into job 1 today to drop off some presents for one of my friends who's leaving. We surprised her with some boots she was after for ages. She'd reserved them but before she could buy them another friend came in, she bought them (as a gift for the one who's leaving)! When she came to the till to pick her reserved boots they were gone! We all managed to fib to her and tell her they'd been recalled. She was heartbroken the poor girl! But it was worth it to see her caught off guard when she opened the box. I also discovered a new place to eat. It's called Bap and is round the corner from both of my jobs. It's like a home made version of Subway really, it sells made to order sandwiches. The girl recommended we tried the bbq sweet chilli chicken which was amazing! I will definitely be going there more often.

So after we found out little Quigley had mites I decided that changing the floor/bedding they're on might be a good start to helping him feel better. They were on Kitty's Crumble which I really like as a flooring. It gives a good covering, keeps quite warm, is dust free and has no odour. The geckos are also on it so it was convenient to buy a big bag for all of them to share. The only bad side I found was when the lazy bums didn't want to poo in the litter tray, it sort of blended in and was hard to pick out on a day-to-day basis. It also tended to cover any fresh veg that dropped off the platforms onto it, but that's to be expected when ratties can't keep it in the bowl! I did a good bit of research into what bedding might be best and finally decided to give Care Fresh a go. So far, they've not troubled themselves to get out of bed and have a look, but I'm sure we'll have a verdict by tomorrow.

Today we took Quigley to the vets as I'd noticed some little sores around his ears and on the back of his neck. After having a look and taking a skin scraping, the vet said that he seemed to have mites as there were eggs in the skin sample. No wonder he's been looking red and sore. So he's now having spot-on style treatment, one drop on his neck, one near his bum every two weeks until it clears up. Klaus and Jacques are also going in tomorrow to be weighed so they can be treated too, although they seem to be fine. Little Quig weighs 560g! In other news, we're still trying to get rid, ie eat, all o the xmas choccies.

For some reason I'm way more tired that I usually am after work on a Sunday. I only have a short shift tomorrow though, then it's off to Nandos! I also took the photos for our traditional crappy xmas card, it was a nightmare to get the cats to sit still! The rats didn't like the idea that much that we just gave up on having a shot with them in! Even the geckos kept wriggling about. I'll post some outtakes once I've made the card.

Today at work I booked my first client in! I think I did everything properly and remembered all of the important bits at least. I'm starting to feel a lot more relaxed and settled there too now, so I'm really enjoying it. We also gave the rat's cage a good clean out and have changed the set up so that they have a bit of a change of scenery. Asami wasn't happy that we were trying to clean the cage rather than pay her attention and kept climbing into the cage!!

Today's PED is a compilation of photos of the rats enjoying their new hammock from BitsOHeaven over on Etsy. Their products are so cute and it's so well made, much better than the faux fur hammock the boys had previously. It's a lot softer and lighter but seems like it will be nice and snug for them whilst they sleep. It also came with 4 big hooks which are also a lot better than the simple hooks I have on some of their other things.I haven't washed it yet, but imagine when I do it will be just as lovely. I feel like we really got a bargain too as it was just under £10 and was shipped really quickly, especially seeing as it was coming from America to England. I love it as it feels so special and personal, plus it looks nice in their cage! They tend to sleep one on the very top and one in the middle or one on the top and one at the bottom. I've also seen Jacques and Quigley asleep in the middle with Klaus on top too! I love the patterns and I already have my eye on this spooky cobweb print one and this skeleton print one. I would certainly recommend!
