Pet Of The Week: Axolotl

I'm starting a new feature called Pet Of The Week to allow me to research and learn more about the animals we sell at my new place of work. First up, we have the axolotl.

 

The axolotl is known by it's official name; Ambystoma mexicanum or more commonly as the Mexican salamander or Mexican walking fish. It is closely related to the tiger salamander but it is fully aquatic and spends its entire life underwater. They originate from spefic freshwater lakes, including Lake Xochimilco which lies underneath Mexico City. Sadly, they are registered as critically endangered in regards to conservation status as their young are often eaten by non-native fish which have been introduced into their habitats.

Today I thought I'd make my PED a self portrait since I haven't taken any photos of myself for a while. My hair's getting really long now and has a nice wave to it today after I scrunch dried it. I'm still debating whether to stop trying to get it to have a proper red tint to it and just dye it black again or whether to keep trying with the red. I suppose it's all going to come down to how I feel when I go to buy some hair dye.

Reason: There was a live version from Download I think on Zane Lowe's radio show on the way home tonight. They are the most amazing band.

Highlight Of The Day: Looking after Pixie and seeing her and the cats taking big steps towards getting on better. They were sleeping a mere foot away from each other and Asami usually doesn't even come in the room when she's here!

Inspiration Of The Day: Film festival research for a film I'm assistant producing on. Makes me want a full time film job asap!

Today's PED is of a yellow snail I found stuck to the side of the post boxes. The post box seems to be the best place for strange stuff at the moment! It's not a great photo as I was trying to take it quickly so my neighbours didn't think I was a crazy loon. Pixie also came for a visit and I furthered my photography research.

Highlight Of The Day: Opening 2 accounts at work! My 3rd for the week already plus our department is having a great week in general.

Good news, the toilet is fixed!! The plumber spent ages trying to plunge it, to find that it was a big chunk of metal stuck in the open drain outside. The drain has been left uncovered for weeks because our buildings management are terrible so I assume it fell in when the drain cover smashed. Backed up water was gushing through the drain for 15 minutes after apparently! Gross! I've also been doing some more research for Boom In Shot, the horror-comedy short film I'll be working on until June. I really love the script and think it's the best thing I've worked on so far, right up my street! Check out the website and sign up for updates!!
